Delete your Chatimix account
Chatimix is a messaging app run by the Chatimix project. This page explains how to delete your Chatimix account, what is deleted and what is kept. The privacy policy has the full details.
Delete your account in the app
- Open Chatimix and go to Settings › Account.
- Tap delete account.
- Enter your password and tap delete account to confirm.
If you can, do this on the device where you verified your phone number. From that device, the request goes through the identity service, which also removes your phone number binding. From a device where you did not verify your number, the account is deleted on the server but the binding stays. In that case, set Settings › Privacy › find me by number to nobody before you delete the account.
Ask for deletion without the app
If you can no longer use the app, for example because you lost your phone, write to support@chatimix.com and ask for your Chatimix account to be deleted. Include your Chatimix account id, which looks like @name:chatimix.com.
Mail to this address is received by Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES) in Frankfurt, kept there for up to 30 days, and forwarded to the mailbox of the people who run Chatimix.
What is deleted
- Your Chatimix account on the server. The server deactivates the account and erases its data: your Chatimix messages on the server, your profile and the list of devices signed in to it. Every device signed in to the account is signed out.
- Your phone number binding, when you delete from the device where you verified your number. The identity service deletes the keyed hash of your number, your account id and the time it was stored, and the verifier of your registration lock PIN if you turned the lock on. Nobody can then find you by your number.
- Your sign-in on this device. The app signs out of the account and forgets the phone number you verified.
What is kept, and for how long
- Server backups, for up to 14 days. Encrypted snapshots of the server's disks are taken every day and kept for 14 days, so deleted data can remain in them for up to 14 days.
- Your account id. The id itself (
@name:chatimix.com) stays reserved on the server and is never given to a new account. - Your phone number binding, when you delete from a device where you did not verify your number. Set find me by number to nobody first, or delete the account from the device where you verified it.
- Server logs. Log lines that name your account id, such as the record that the account was deleted, are not removed when the account is deleted.
- Data on your device. Texts (SMS and MMS), messages from other networks and messages already in your inbox stay on your device. To remove them, uninstall Chatimix or clear its storage in Android settings.
- Your other networks. WhatsApp, Telegram and the other networks you connected stay connected on your device. To sign out of one and delete its session from your device, disconnect it in Settings › Networks.
- Messages you sent remain on the devices of the people you sent them to.
