Terms of use
Draft, pending the owner's legal review. Not yet in force. Last updated: 2026-10-18.
These terms cover the Chatimix app and the Chatimix server that carries Chatimix messages. They are written in plain English. How Chatimix handles your data is described in the privacy policy.
Operator details: to be added by the owner before these terms take effect.
What Chatimix is
Chatimix is a messaging app. It puts your text messages (SMS and MMS), Chatimix messages and calls, and the other networks you connect, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal and Messenger, into one inbox.
- SMS and MMS are sent and received by your phone through your mobile carrier, like any other texting app.
- Chatimix messages are end-to-end encrypted and travel through the Chatimix server, which runs at Amazon Web Services in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Chatimix calls are end-to-end encrypted and are relayed by LiveKit Cloud, a hosted media service.
- WhatsApp, Telegram and other networks are reached by a client that runs inside the app on your device and connects straight to that network's own servers.
The license
Chatimix is free software. The source code is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (AGPL-3.0), and is available on request (see Contact). The full license text is in the LICENSE file that comes with the source code, and the licenses of the Dart and Flutter packages the app is built with are listed in the app under Settings › Help & about › open-source licenses.
- You may use, study, change and share Chatimix under the terms of that license.
- If you change Chatimix and let other people use your changed version over a network, the license requires you to offer them its source code.
- Nothing in these terms takes away a right the license gives you. Where these terms and the license disagree about the software, the license wins.
These terms add rules only for using the Chatimix server and the accounts on it.
Your Chatimix account
- You need a Chatimix account to send and receive Chatimix messages and to make Chatimix calls. SMS and the other networks you connect work without one.
- Creating an account needs a phone number that can receive a verification code by SMS. While phone verification is not available on the server, new accounts cannot be created.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your password to yourself.
- Your messages are end-to-end encrypted, so nobody who runs the Chatimix server can read them or recover them for you. If you set up a chat backup, keep your passphrase and recovery key safe: without them, encrypted history cannot be restored on a new device.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings › Account › delete account. See the privacy policy for what deletion removes.
Acceptable use
When you use the Chatimix server, do not:
- send spam, bulk unsolicited messages or automated messages to people who did not ask for them;
- harass, threaten or impersonate other people;
- share content that is illegal where you or the recipient live;
- try to get into accounts, devices or data that are not yours;
- try to overload, probe or break the server, or get around its limits, for example by checking large lists of phone numbers against contact discovery.
We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these rules, or that puts the server or other people at risk.
Other networks
When you connect WhatsApp, Telegram or another network, you use your own account on that network, and that network's own terms apply to it.
- Chatimix is not made, approved or supported by those networks. It connects to them the way a linked device or a third-party client does.
- WhatsApp does not allow unofficial clients and can ban accounts that use one. The app tells you this before you link WhatsApp. If you are not willing to take that risk, do not link it.
- Other networks may limit, suspend or close accounts that use third-party clients too. You are responsible for your accounts on those networks and for following their rules.
- A network can change how it works at any time. When that happens, the connection in Chatimix may stop working until the app is updated.
SMS, MMS and carrier charges
Texts are sent through your mobile carrier. Your carrier's normal charges and limits apply, including charges for texts to other countries and for MMS.
The Chatimix server
The server is provided as it is. It may change, have outages or stop being offered. We do not promise that it will always be available or that a message will always arrive.
No warranty
Chatimix comes with no warranty, to the extent the law allows. It is provided as it is, without any promise that it will work for a particular purpose, be free of errors or keep your data safe from loss. Sections 15 and 16 of the AGPL-3.0 say the same for the software. Keep your own backups of anything that matters to you.
Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, the people who make Chatimix and run its server are not liable for lost messages, lost data, account bans on other networks, carrier charges or any indirect damage that comes from using the app or the server.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change matters for how you use Chatimix, it will be announced before it takes effect.
